  • Cook Pasta: Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the rest in a colander.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Asparagus
  • Blanch Asparagus: In the same pot, add the asparagus to the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until tender but still crisp. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.
  • Step 3: Make the Sauce
  • Sauté Garlic: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Combine Ingredients: Add the blanched asparagus to the skillet, tossing it in the garlic oil for 1-2 minutes. If desired, add red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Mix Pasta and Cheese: Add the drained pasta to the skillet, and toss everything together. If it seems dry, add a bit of the reserved pasta water until you reach the desired consistency. Stir in the Parmesan cheese, and season with salt, pepper, and a splash of fresh lemon juice for brightness.
