Spicy Mango Mule: Step-by-Step Recipe Guide
Spicy Mango Mule
Equipment
- Equipment needed: Cocktail shaker, muddler, jigger, copper mug or glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz vodka use a spicy one for extra heat, if you like
- 1 oz fresh mango purée about half a ripe mango
- 1 oz fresh lime juice juice of one lime
- 1-2 slices fresh jalapeño depending on your spice preference
- 3 oz ginger beer chilled, non-alcoholic or alcoholic as you prefer
- 1 tsp agave syrup optional for sweetness
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mango and lime slices for garnish
- Cilantro or mint for an herbal garnish optional
Instructions
- Method:
- Prepare the mango purée: If you don’t have pre-made mango purée, you can make it by blending fresh mango chunks until smooth. Strain it if you want a silky texture.
- Muddle the jalapeño: In a cocktail shaker, add 1-2 slices of jalapeño (use more if you love the heat). Muddle gently to release the oils but don’t overdo it. You just want a hint of spice, not a fire in your mouth.
- Add the liquids: Pour in the vodka, mango purée, lime juice, and agave syrup (if you prefer a bit more sweetness).
- Shake it up: Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker and shake well for about 15-20 seconds. You want it to be icy cold and mixed thoroughly.
- Serve: Strain the mixture into a copper mule mug (or any glass of your choice) filled with ice. Top it off with ginger beer.
- Garnish and enjoy: Garnish with a slice of fresh mango, lime, and a sprig of cilantro or mint for an added herbal touch. If you're feeling fancy, you can even add an extra jalapeño slice on top for decoration.
- Variations and Substitutions:
- Dietary needs: If you’re gluten-sensitive, make sure to choose a gluten-free ginger beer. For a non-alcoholic version, simply swap out the vodka for more ginger beer or sparkling water.
- Vodka substitutions: If you don’t have vodka on hand, tequila works well with mango and lime. If you're feeling adventurous, try mezcal for a smokier version.
- Mango alternatives: If you don’t have mango, pineapple or peach purée works great. Each fruit brings its own tropical flavor to the mix, so feel free to experiment.
- Level of spiciness: You can adjust the heat by using more or fewer jalapeño slices. If jalapeños are too spicy for your taste, try using bell pepper for a mild, peppery flavor.
