Farinata di Ceci recipe guide
Farinata di Ceci
Equipment
- Equipment Needed: Mixing bowl, whisk, oven-safe pan, spatula
Ingredients
- Ingredients
- 1 cup chickpea flour also known as gram flour
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup olive oil plus more for greasing
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Optional toppings: Fresh rosemary black pepper, olives, or your favorite herbs.
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Batter
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of chickpea flour and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Gradually whisk in 2 cups of water until you achieve a smooth batter. Make sure there are no lumps.
- Stir in 1/4 cup of olive oil.
- Step 2: Let It Rest
- Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the batter rest for at least 30 minutes. This resting period helps the flour absorb the water and enhances the flavor.
- Step 3: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Place an oven-safe pan (preferably cast iron) in the oven to heat up.
- Step 4: Bake the Farinata
- Once the oven is hot, carefully remove the pan and drizzle a little olive oil in it. Swirl the pan to coat the bottom.
- Pour the rested batter into the pan.
- If desired, sprinkle fresh rosemary or other toppings on top.
- Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy.
- Step 5: Serve
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Cut into wedges and serve warm, either plain or with your choice of toppings.
- Variations
- Herbed Farinata: Add chopped fresh herbs like thyme or oregano to the batter.
- Spicy: Incorporate chili flakes for a spicy kick.
- Cheesy: Mix in some grated Parmesan for a rich flavor.
