#Grapefruit Basil Martini
Equipment
- Equipment Needed:
- Shaker
- Strainer
- Jigger (or measuring spoons)
- Cocktail glass
Ingredients
- Ingredients
- 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
- 1 oz vodka use a gluten-free vodka if necessary
- 0.5 oz simple syrup see tips for making your own
- 2-3 fresh basil leaves plus more for garnish
- Ice cubes
- Grapefruit slice for garnish optional
Instructions
- Method
- Prepare the Ingredients: Squeeze fresh grapefruit juice if you haven’t done so already. You'll need about half a grapefruit for 2 oz of juice.
- Muddle the Basil: In a cocktail shaker, add 2-3 fresh basil leaves. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently press the basil to release its oils. Don’t over-muddle, as this can make the drink bitter.
- Combine the Ingredients: Add the fresh grapefruit juice, vodka, and simple syrup into the shaker with the muddled basil.
- Shake It Up: Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This helps chill the cocktail and mix all the flavors beautifully.
- Strain and Serve: Using a strainer, pour the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass. This ensures a smooth drink without any basil bits.
- Garnish: Add a fresh basil leaf or a slice of grapefruit for garnish. This adds an appealing touch and enhances the aroma.
- Enjoy!: Sip and enjoy your refreshing Grapefruit Basil Martini!
- Variations
- Grapefruit Basil Mojito: Swap vodka for white rum, and add a splash of soda water for a mojito twist.
- Spicy Grapefruit Basil Martini: Add a few slices of jalapeño when muddling the basil for a spicy kick.
- Herb Infusion: Try swapping basil for other herbs like rosemary or mint for a different flavor profile.
