Apple Ginger Highball

Course Drinks
Cuisine American

Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Highball glass, bar spoon, measuring jigger, knife, peeler (optional)

Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • 1.5 oz 45 ml whiskey (bourbon or rye works well)
  • 3 oz 90 ml apple juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 1 oz 30 ml ginger beer
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh apple slices and ginger slices for garnish

Instructions

  • Method:
  • Fill the glass with ice: Start by filling your highball glass with ice cubes. This helps keep your drink cold while also ensuring the cocktail has a refreshing finish.
  • Add the whiskey: Measure out 1.5 oz of whiskey using a jigger and pour it over the ice. Bourbon will add a sweet note, while rye gives a spicier kick. You can choose either based on your preference.
  • Pour in the apple juice: Add 3 oz of fresh apple juice. If you can get your hands on freshly pressed juice, it’s a game-changer, but bottled apple juice works just as well.
  • Top with ginger beer: Add 1 oz of ginger beer for a spicy, effervescent touch. Make sure to pour it slowly to keep the fizz intact.
  • Garnish: Slice a fresh apple and ginger to garnish the cocktail. You can fan the apple slices along the glass or float them on top for a nice visual effect.
  • Stir and serve: Use a bar spoon to gently stir the drink to combine the flavors. Serve immediately, and enjoy!
  • Variations and Substitutions:
  • Alcohol-Free Version: Swap the whiskey for a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative or leave it out entirely for a delicious apple-ginger mocktail.
  • Vegan-Friendly: This cocktail is naturally vegan, as all ingredients are plant-based.
  • Low-Sugar Option: Use unsweetened apple juice and sugar-free ginger beer to reduce the sugar content. This will also bring down the calorie count.
  • Spicy Twist: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or muddle fresh ginger in the glass before adding the ice for an extra kick.
  • Herbal Infusion: You can add fresh herbs like mint or thyme to the drink for a refreshing herbal note.
