Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Simple Syrup
Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan.
Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
Remove from heat and let it cool. Store any leftovers in the fridge for future use (it lasts for about a month).
Step 2: Muddle the Blackberries
In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh blackberries.
Muddle them gently with a muddler or the back of a fork to release their juices.
Step 3: Mix the Cocktail
Add the gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice and shake well for about 15 seconds until chilled.
Step 4: Strain and Serve
Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice (you can use a highball or Collins glass).
Top it off with club soda to your desired level of fizz.
Garnish with a few fresh blackberries and a lemon slice, if desired.
Variations
For a Berry Fizz: Substitute blackberries with other berries like raspberries or strawberries for a different flavor profile.
Herbal Twist: Add a few fresh mint leaves while muddling for a refreshing herbal note.
For a Lower-Calorie Option: Use a sugar substitute for the simple syrup or opt for diet tonic water instead of club soda.
