Cuisine Mexican

Equipment

  • Equipment Needed:
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger (or measuring cup)
  • Muddler (optional)
  • Strainer
  • Glasses (preferably margarita or rocks glasses)
  • Blender (if using frozen fruit)

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • For the cocktail:
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 2 oz tequila silver or reposado
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice about 1 lime
  • 1 oz orange liqueur like Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 1-2 tablespoons agave syrup to taste, optional
  • Ice
  • For garnish:
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Lime slices
  • Coarse sea salt or sugar for rimming glasses, optional

Instructions

  • Method
  • Prepare the Glasses:
  • If you like a salted rim, rub a lime wedge around the edge of your glass and dip it in coarse salt or sugar. Set the glasses aside.
  • Muddle the Blueberries:
  • In a cocktail shaker, add the blueberries and muddle gently with a muddler or the back of a spoon to release their juices. This will enhance the flavor of your cocktail.
  • Combine the Ingredients:
  • Add the pomegranate juice, tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup (if using) to the shaker. Fill the shaker with ice.
  • Shake It Up:
  • Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled. You want to mix the flavors thoroughly while also chilling the drink.
  • Strain and Serve:
  • Using a strainer, pour the mixture into the prepared glasses filled with fresh ice. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can strain the drink to remove any pulp or blueberry skins.
  • Garnish:
  • Top each margarita with a few fresh blueberries and a lime slice for a pop of color and extra flavor.
  • Enjoy:
  • Sip your Blueberry Pomegranate Margarita and enjoy the refreshing, fruity taste!
  • Variations
  • Frozen Blueberry Pomegranate Margarita: Blend the ingredients with ice for a frozen version. Just add everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Spicy Kick: Add a slice of jalapeƱo to the shaker while muddling the blueberries for a spicy twist.
  • Diet-Friendly: For a lower-calorie version, replace agave syrup with a sugar-free sweetener and use a low-calorie mixer.
