Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Cocktail shaker, muddler, jigger, strainer, glass, and a stirring spoon.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 medium ripe peach or ½ cup peach slices
  • ½ oz simple syrup adjust based on sweetness preference
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • Ice cubes
  • Variations
  • Whiskey Peach Smash: Use whiskey instead of bourbon for a slightly different flavor profile.
  • Berry Peach Smash: Add a handful of fresh berries like raspberries or blueberries for an added fruity twist.
  • Sparkling Peach Smash: Top your drink with a splash of club soda or sparkling wine for a bubbly finish.
  • Tips and Substitutions
  • Simple Syrup: You can make your own by heating equal parts sugar and water until dissolved. For a healthier alternative consider using agave syrup or honey.
  • Peach Alternatives: If fresh peaches aren’t in season feel free to use frozen peach slices or canned peaches (in juice or light syrup) just make sure to drain them well.
  • Low-Sugar Option: For a lower sugar version omit the simple syrup and use ripe peaches, which will provide natural sweetness.

Instructions

  • Method
  • Step 1: Prepare the Peaches
  • If you’re using fresh peaches, wash them thoroughly and slice them into wedges. If they're ripe enough, you can easily remove the pit by cutting around it.
  • Step 2: Muddle the Ingredients
  • In a cocktail shaker, add the peach slices and simple syrup. Using a muddler (or the back of a spoon), gently press down on the peaches to release their juices. Be careful not to pulverize them completely; you want some texture in your drink!
  • Step 3: Add the Remaining Ingredients
  • Next, add the bourbon and fresh lemon juice to the shaker.
  • Step 4: Shake It Up
  • Fill the shaker with ice cubes and secure the lid. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well mixed and chilled.
  • Step 5: Strain and Serve
  • Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice. For an extra touch, you can double strain it using a fine mesh strainer to catch any peach pulp.
  • Step 6: Garnish and Enjoy
  • Garnish with a few mint leaves. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also add a peach slice on the rim of the glass.
