Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Mixing bowl, whisk, baking sheet, oven, plastic wrap, and a gelato scoop.

Ingredients

  • For the Brioche:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup whole milk warm
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened and cut into cubes
  • For Serving:
  • Gelato of your choice vanilla, chocolate, or hazelnut are popular options
  • Optional: Chocolate sauce fruit, or nuts for garnish

Instructions

  • Step-by-Step Instructions
  • Prepare the Dough
  • In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and eggs.
  • Mix until a dough forms, then add the softened butter. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Let It Rise
  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the Brioche
  • Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Bake the Brioche
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the brioche balls for about 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
  • Assemble the Dish
  • Once the brioche is cool, slice them in half. Place a generous scoop of gelato between the halves.
  • Drizzle with chocolate sauce or add fresh fruit or nuts for an extra touch.
