Method
Step 1: Prepare the Simple Syrup
Combine Water and Sugar: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine equal parts sugar and water (1 cup each).
Dissolve: Stir until the sugar completely dissolves, and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Store: Transfer to a glass jar and refrigerate for up to a month.
Step 2: Muddle the Cucumber
Slice the Cucumber: Thinly slice the cucumber and set aside a couple of slices for garnish.
Muddle: In a cocktail shaker, add the cucumber slices (about 6–8 slices). Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush the cucumber, releasing its juices.
Step 3: Mix the Cocktail
Add Ingredients: To the muddled cucumber, add lemon juice, gin or vodka (if using), and simple syrup.
Add Ice: Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
Step 4: Strain and Serve
Strain: Using a strainer, pour the mixture into two glasses filled with ice.
Top with Soda: Slowly pour soda water over the mixture to fill the glasses.
Garnish: Add a slice of cucumber and a sprig of fresh mint to each glass.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Give it a gentle stir and enjoy your refreshing Cucumber Lemon Fizz!
Variations
Mocktail Version: Omit the gin or vodka, and replace it with extra soda water or tonic for a delicious non-alcoholic version.
Herbal Twist: Add fresh basil instead of mint for a different flavor profile.
Fruity Additions: Mix in other fruits like strawberries or raspberries for an extra burst of flavor.
