Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Shaker, measuring jigger, fine mesh strainer, glasses

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 2 oz. vodka or gin for a twist
  • 1 oz. hibiscus syrup see notes for DIY recipe
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 4 oz. ginger beer
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges for garnish
  • Dried hibiscus flowers optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Method
  • Prepare Your Ingredients:
  • Gather all your ingredients and equipment. If making your own hibiscus syrup, steep dried hibiscus flowers in boiling water for 10-15 minutes, then strain and mix with equal parts sugar until dissolved.
  • Mix the Base:
  • In a shaker, combine vodka (or gin), hibiscus syrup, and fresh lime juice. Add ice to fill the shaker halfway.
  • Shake It Up:
  • Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. This will chill and combine the ingredients well.
  • Strain and Serve:
  • Fill two glasses with ice. Strain the mixture evenly into each glass, filling them about two-thirds full.
  • Top It Off:
  • Pour ginger beer over the top of each drink, allowing the bubbles to rise.
  • Garnish:
  • Garnish with lime wedges and, if using, dried hibiscus flowers for an elegant touch.
  • Enjoy:
  • Stir gently to combine and enjoy your refreshing Hibiscus and Ginger Mule!
  • Variations
  • Mocktail Version: Omit the vodka or gin and use additional ginger beer and a splash of soda water for a non-alcoholic drink.
  • Spicy Kick: Add a few slices of fresh jalapeƱo to the shaker for a spicy twist.
  • Herbal Infusion: Muddle fresh mint leaves with the hibiscus syrup for a minty flavor.
  • Fruit-Infused: Add fresh fruit slices like strawberries or peaches to the drink for added flavor and color.
