Lemon Basil Gin Fizz

Course Drinks
Cuisine American

Equipment

  • Equipment Needed:
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Strainer
  • Highball glass or cocktail glass
  • Jigger (for measuring)

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 2 oz gin choose your favorite brand
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice about half a lemon
  • 1 oz simple syrup or to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves about 5-6 leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • Club soda to top off
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Method
  • Muddle the Basil:
  • In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh basil leaves and simple syrup. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently press the basil leaves to release their aromatic oils. Be careful not to shred the leaves too much; you want the flavor without a lot of leafy bits in your drink.
  • Add Gin and Lemon Juice:
  • Pour in the gin and fresh lemon juice into the shaker. This combination gives your drink a zesty and refreshing base.
  • Shake it Up:
  • Fill the shaker with ice cubes, covering the liquid. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill the mixture thoroughly.
  • Strain and Serve:
  • Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice. Use a fine mesh strainer if you want to catch any bits of basil leaves for a smoother drink.
  • Top with Club Soda:
  • Gently top off your drink with club soda to your desired fizz level. Stir lightly to combine.
  • Garnish:
  • Garnish with a sprig of basil and a lemon slice for a beautiful presentation.
  • Enjoy!
  • Sip your Lemon Basil Gin Fizz and enjoy the refreshing burst of flavors! Let me show you how I make this drink for my friends at summer gatherings.
  • Variations
  • Herbal Infusions: Try adding mint leaves or rosemary along with the basil for a more complex flavor.
  • Fruit Additions: Muddle in some fresh berries like raspberries or strawberries for a fruity twist.
  • Non-Alcoholic Version: Replace gin with tonic water or a non-alcoholic gin alternative for a refreshing mocktail.
