Cook the Pasta:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Sauce:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it!
Add Spice:
Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes. This will give the dish its signature heat, so adjust the amount to your liking.
Combine Tomatoes:
Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the tomato paste. Stir well to combine.
Season the Sauce:
Add sugar, salt, and pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Mix Pasta and Sauce:
Add the drained pasta to the sauce. Toss until the pasta is well coated with the spicy tomato sauce. Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, so the pasta absorbs some of the flavors.
Serve:
Plate the pasta and garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Top with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
