Instructions
Prepare the Simple Syrup (if making your own):
Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, then let it cool. This can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to a month.
Juice the Plums:
Cut ripe plums in half, remove the pits, and either blend them with a bit of water or use a juicer to extract the juice. Strain the juice if desired for a smoother texture.
Mix the Cocktail:
In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, fresh plum juice, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Add ice to fill the shaker halfway.
Shake It Up:
Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until well chilled.
Strain and Serve:
Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice. Top off with club soda or sparkling water.
Garnish:
Add fresh plum slices or a lemon twist for a pop of color. If you want, toss in a few mint leaves for extra freshness.
Variations
Fruit Alternatives: You can substitute plums with other fruits like peaches, apricots, or cherries for a different flavor profile.
Herbal Twist: Add a few sprigs of basil or rosemary when shaking for an herbal note.
Make It a Mocktail: Replace gin with tonic water or non-alcoholic gin to create a refreshing mocktail version.
