Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Shaker, jigger, strainer, martini glass

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • For the Cocktail
  • 2 oz vodka you can substitute with tequila for a different flavor
  • 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz agave syrup or simple syrup adjust based on sweetness preference
  • 1-2 slices of jalapeño adjust based on desired spice level
  • Salt for rimming the glass, optional
  • Grapefruit slice or jalapeño slice for garnish

Instructions

  • Method
  • Prepare the Glass: If you want to add a salt rim, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your martini glass, then dip it into salt to coat.
  • Infuse the Jalapeño: In a shaker, muddle 1-2 slices of jalapeño with the agave syrup. This helps release the jalapeño's heat and flavor. If you prefer a milder drink, start with one slice and taste before adding more.
  • Mix the Cocktail: Add vodka, fresh grapefruit juice, and lime juice to the shaker with the muddled jalapeño. Fill the shaker with ice.
  • Shake It Up: Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds, until well chilled.
  • Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture into the prepared martini glass. If you prefer a smoother drink, double strain it using a fine mesh strainer to catch any jalapeño bits.
  • Garnish: Add a slice of grapefruit or jalapeño to the rim for garnish.
  • Variations
  • Spicy Grapefruit Margarita: Substitute vodka for tequila, and use orange liqueur instead of agave syrup for a margarita twist.
  • Grapefruit Basil Martini: Swap jalapeño for fresh basil. Muddle basil leaves in the shaker before adding the other ingredients for a refreshing herbal note.
  • Fruit-Infused Version: Add muddled strawberries or pineapple for a sweet touch.
