Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Muddler, shaker, strainer, glass, and measuring jigger

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • For the Cocktail:
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 6-8 fresh basil leaves plus extra for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup adjust based on sweetness preference
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 4 ounces gin or vodka for a non-alcoholic version, use soda water
  • 4 ounces club soda or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Method for Creating the Strawberry and Basil Fizz
  • Muddle the Ingredients:
  • In a sturdy glass, add the sliced strawberries and basil leaves.
  • Add the honey or agave syrup and lemon juice.
  • Using a muddler, gently mash the strawberries and basil together to release their juices and flavors. Be careful not to over-muddle, as this can break down the basil leaves too much.
  • Shake it Up:
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  • Add the muddled strawberry-basil mixture along with the gin or vodka.
  • Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until well combined and chilled.
  • Strain and Serve:
  • Strain the mixture into two glasses filled with ice cubes.
  • Top each glass with club soda or sparkling water for that fizzy effect.
  • Garnish with a basil leaf or a strawberry slice on the rim.
  • Enjoy!
  • Stir gently to combine before sipping. Let me show you how I make it at home for friends, and trust me, they always come back for more!
  • Variations
  • Fruity Twist: Substitute strawberries with raspberries or blackberries for a different fruity flavor.
  • Herbaceous Note: Try adding a sprig of mint along with basil for a refreshing twist.
  • Non-Alcoholic Option: Replace gin or vodka with additional sparkling water or a flavored soda for a delightful mocktail.
