Step-by-Step Method
Prepare the Watermelon: Start by cutting the watermelon into cubes. For a smoother drink, you can blend the watermelon to make a puree, or you can muddle the cubes directly in the glass.
Muddle the Mint: In a cocktail shaker, add the mint leaves and lime juice. Use a muddler to gently crush the mint leaves to release their oils. Be careful not to tear them too much; just a gentle press will do.
Combine Ingredients: If you blended the watermelon, add the watermelon puree to the shaker. If you're using muddled cubes, add them to the shaker along with the simple syrup and rum.
Shake it Up: Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This helps to chill the mixture and blend the flavors.
Strain: If you used a blender, strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice. If you muddled the watermelon, you can pour everything into the glass without straining.
Top with Club Soda: Add a splash of club soda to the glass to give your cocktail a little fizz. Adjust the amount based on your taste.
Garnish: Add a few mint leaves on top for garnish and, if desired, a slice of watermelon on the rim of the glass.
Serve and Enjoy: Stir gently to mix, and then it’s ready to serve!
Variations
Non-Alcoholic Version: Omit the rum and replace it with more club soda or sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail.
Spicy Kick: Add a slice of jalapeño when muddling the mint for a spicy twist.
Berry Burst: Substitute half of the watermelon with fresh strawberries or raspberries for a fruity twist.
